Every new president is given a multitude of advice regarding how to perform as a president. In addition, many media outlets enjoy comparing him to past presidents in a variety of measures from policy to mannerisms. Yet, what often lacks is the description of what the ideal president is or how the model president should act.
Every president is asked to take on a multitude of roles and thus fill many different shoes. Therefore, the ideal president must meet many different criteria.
If you were to give an incoming president five characteristics he or she must possess in their new role, what would they be?

Five characteristics that I believe a president must possess in order to be successful are integrity, efficiency, determination, practicality, and good communication skills. It is important for the president to have integrity, so that he can base his decisions off of his values and principles. Even if a citizen does not agree with the president's values, at least the citizen can recognize that he has values. I believe it is important for the president to work efficiently, not to spend all of his time on one issue while neglecting the others. Yet, the president must also be determined to succeed in his work because Americans do not want a president that easily gives in when things get too hard. Practicality is important for a president to possess, so that he can judge how to respond in certain situations. If a situation is hopeless or not worth the time and effort, the president needs to know how to approach it practically. Lastly, it is absolutely vital that all presidents have good communication skills, so that Americans hold a favorable opinion of him when they hear him speak.
If I were to list five characteristics that a president must possess when taking the oath I would say that they must be..
1. persistent (A president must be persistent because obviously not everything is going to go his or her way all the time. If a president doesn't give up though and keeps on trying to negotiate and pass bills, then that's good and change will occur; he/she cannot just give up).
2. honest (An honest president is of the utmost importance because he/she is responsible for guiding the the country in the right direction and if it's all a fake then chaos will erupt).
3. courageous (A president must be courageous because you have to take risks sometimes to get his or her agenda accomplished).
4. confident (A president has to be confident because people are going to bash on him or her and constantly judge as well. It is important to have a president that believes in him or herself because at times that's going to be the only thing that keeps his or her head above water).
5. understanding (A president has to be understanding because he or she has to be willing to work with other people and understand their points of views and where they may be coming from).
Five leadership qualities I believe the president should be characterized by include: honesty, intelligence, practicality, inspiring, and dedication. Honesty is most important out of this list and can be useful in many different aspects. The president must honestly care about the welfare of our nation, be honest about how he or she feels about certain issues, and must be honest in admitting the times where mistakes have been made. The president must be intelligent when it comes to book-smarts and also common sense. He or she must think practically, planning agendas and forming ideas that are actually le of being accomplished in a close enough time frames. It is good to have highly optimistic views about our nation, but it is more important to understand the reality of the issues we face. The president must also be an inspiration to others, motivating people to provide their thoughts and opinions on topics of concern. Like stated before, it’s always nice to have a boost of confidence towards the future of our country. Therefore, the president should remind people of the positive circumstances of this country. Finally, he or she must be dedicated to their position as president. They must stay in order, being professional at all times when it comes to leading our country. To be dedicated means to not take part in “shady business” on the side. It means to be truly focused on the prosperity of the American people. Without leadership characteristics like listed above, the president cannot be fully successful during his or her term.
I believe that the president in order to be successful must be honest, idealistic, relatable, trustworthy, and confident in his or her abilites.
1. A president should be honest with the people not only he is working with, but all the American people as well. If he tells the truth to the people and does not exaggerate circumstances, then the people are less likely to be let down if something does not go as planned.
2. With honesty, presidents also need to be relatable. They need to be able to communicate with the people and connect to them. This allows for the people to understand the president better and some of hi initiatives as a person.
3. The president needs to be realistic in his ideas and prosposals for the American government. He or she cannot have extreme ideas or a utopian view of our society.
4. The president should be a trustworthy person. The American people need to be able to trust the president and his descsions in order to support him. When the president has the support of the people and his co-workers, government tends to run much more smoothly.
5. Lastly, a president needs to confident in his abilities to act as the leader of our country. He should not doubt himself, but trust that he will make the right choice in the end.
First, I would tell the new president to be the type of leader they campaigned to be. Many politicians make many promises that they cannot keep while trying to gain votes. People like a president who works for them and does exactly what they say they will. Getting legislation passed obviously is not easy, but a president needs to fight for the people and always put in their full effort.
Next, I think it is important for a president to be a team player. Nothing will get done if they try to do everything by themselves. The president must work to stay on good terms with his cabinet and with Congress, especially the leaders in each house. A good president would also work well with top military commanders in order to make the best decisions for our troops and our success.
It is also important for a president to be humble. People do not like to be talked down to. It is important for a president to recognize that he is a U.S. citizen, just like everyone else, and to put himself on the same level as everyone else. It's important for a president to genuinely care about the average person.
A good president must be able to stay calm and make good decisions during time of chaos. Obviously, the job of the president is extremely stressful, but a good president would keep a clear head and think logically while making any decision. He must always stay on task and address top priorities quickly.
Finally, a good president must be trustworthy. The president has an unimaginable amount of power over both our country and over the world. They must really be focused on the good of the people and always do what is right. We, as Americans, should always be able to have faith in our leaders and in our country in general.
The ideal president should have character, drive, honesty, efficiency, and intelligence. I think the president should have an unquestionably strong sense of character. His character should have integrity and add up to having a good reputation. He also needs to know what he wants and he needs to work very hard to get what he wants done. He needs to have the drive to push through difficult times to follow through with what he says. That leads in to how he must be honest. I can’t stand empty promises, so the president should be honest about what he or she for that matter can do while in office, and once in office, be honest about what is going on in the world. They should also be efficient and not mess around once they get into office. The president should be working with Congress, or at least trying to, and fixing problems with our government; if they aren’t they have got to go. Finally, the president should obviously be intelligent. We have to have someone who is educated and can express themselves clearly. The president must be able to understand what’s going on in our government as well as others when dealing with foreign affairs as Head of State.
I think the five most important characteristics for a rpesident to exemplify are:
1) Honesty- A president has to be honest. The American people get so frustrated when they are kept in the dark or lied to. Therefore, they will respect a president that is straight with them and tell them how it is rather than beating around the bush.
2)Confidence- A president has to be firm and confident in himself and in his ideas. If he is not, he'll start to flip-flop and that looks weak and will make him a target to the media. Also, in foreign affairs, it's important that our president is confident enough not to back down from his stance.
3) Time-Management- A President has so many things to handle, so many lives lying in their hands. It's crucial that a President is able to manage his own time wisely in order to plan ahead, to space things out, and to get things done in a timely.
4) Inspiring- A president should bring hope to his people. He should be able to genuinely have faith in his country and spread that faith to the citizens. In hard times, we can't give up. We need someone who will inspire us and will help us remain hopeful.
5)Determined- A president has to be determined to get his job done and be sure that he can persevere through all the hardships that accompany his title. He has to be driven to success and has to want nothing more than the improvement of our country.
1. Determined. If a president is determined to take action in office and shows determination through his platform and speeches, then he will most likely keep that determination while in office.
2. Open-minded. I think that a president will do best in office if he can understand both sides of an argument, no matter his political party. This open-mindedness should reflect in his choosing of cabinet members, picking people from both parties.
3. Intelligent. This is obvious but a president should be smart, both book and street smart.
4. Honest. A president should be honest in everything they do, in their personal and political life. They should not be having affairs on the side because that would also show that they aren't intelligent and will never end well.
5. Confident. A president should be confident in everything they do and stick to their convictions. This also is essential for public speaking. A president has to be confident in himself while at the podium because it reflects his work as president.
Five characteristics that I believe a president must possess in order to do well and keep high approval ratings are rational judgment (especially under pressure), decisiveness, compassion, integrity, and dedication. When running the country, rational thinking is critical. To keep America safe is not an easy task, and it would be nearly impossible with a president who chooses to rush our country into dangerous situations. Decisiveness is something that the people would admire as well as something that is imperative a president has. Being a “flip-flopper” is never admired, and we need a president who knows what the people need and isn’t easily persuaded to change his beliefs. Compassion is something a president must possess so that he can relate to the people. Even though he is now very revered and powerful, he needs to be empathetic for those who are not as fortunate. Next would be integrity, which would include honesty and reliability. Our president is basically the face of the United States, and he needs to be a man of honor because it reflects back on everyone here. Dedication is something almost every president has had, but it is still just as important. The president is working almost constantly, and he must be very devoted to the job that he does, otherwise he won’t do well. Overall, I think these are just five of many qualities that a president needs to possess.
The following are the five qualities I believe an upcoming President must exemplify:
1. Confidence - A President must know who he is and what he stands for. He must demonstrate a feeling of being superior but not to the point where its arrogant. He needs to be able to stand up for himself and our country in front of other nations and various representatives.
2. Honesty - We as the people of America need to be able to have some level of trust with the man we are putting in charge of our entire lives as Americans as we know it. We need to trust that he will do whatever is necessary to improve our lives and that he will keep us safe, just as a few examples.
3. Good Speaker - This might just be me personally, but I like when I like to listen to the President talk. I like people like Bill Clinton, who can add a sense of humor to his political life but can still get the point across. I don't like the people who just sit there and give the straight facts. I would expect a President to be young, upbeat, and really show he has fun doing what he is doing. That way, I will have fun listening to him talk and want to hear more.
4. Efficiency - The President, especially today, needs to be efficient in what he does. We can't afford to be losing or spending money and time on anything that does not need much of those items spent on. The President needs to move through the issues at a pace and make sure everything is looked at and taken care of.
Finally, 5. Intelligent - The President needs to be smart in what he is doing. Getting policy and bills passed can be tricky nowadays in this divided government. HE needs to be persuasive and clever in the way he presents ideas and hope that it can be enough to please everyone and keep America running well.
The most important characteristics I think a president should have are:
1. Determination - As the leader of the country, the president should have the drive and passion to guide the nation in a better direction. Even though bad situations may happen, the president should have the mindset to overcome those obstacles.
2. Honesty - A president needs to be honest to the American people because having a good relationship with the public and informing them of what is happening is very important.
3. Open to ideas - Having his/her plan always fall perfectly into place is not always going to happen. As the leader, the president should be open-minded and consider all options that could better America and benefit the people.
4. Efficiency & time management - When a president says he/she is going to get something done, they should stick to their word and go about their plan as quick as they can in the best way possible. Having a complete understanding of time and taking on what the president can handle is very important for America. Without such management, chaos would occur because of the lack of direction and plan of action.
5. Confident - Overall, the president should be completely comfortable with them self and the actions they have decided to take. Without confidence, America is being misguided and has no sense of direction.
I believe that in order to become a successful president one must possess patriotism, confidence, honesty, open-mindedness, and an ability to compromise.
A patriotic president shows his/her people that he will remain true to his country and always put the needs of America before anything else. This sense of pride is a quality all citizens look for when voting on their leader.
Confidence is a prime quality needed to be a great president because it not only shows strength to those within the country, but also to foreign nations. A confident leader is always sure of his/herself and is steadfast in their decisions.
Honesty is a quality that very few leaders possess. In order to be a great president, one must be able to be honest an up front to his/her people no matter what. In many cases it is imperative not to tell the whole truth to keep the country out of harm, but in circumstances where the truth would only hurt the president’s pride, he/she must be able to accept their mistakes and confront their people.
A great leader must always keep an open mind, and never shut out an idea until they re sure it wont work. If something isn’t working they must always be willing to fix it, even if it means admitting they were wrong. They must always put the good of the people first.
Lastly, a great leader must be able to compromise. Whether it is with the speaker of the house or a leader of a foreign country, they must be willing to work towards an equilibrium.
I believe a president, like Morgan said, must be efficient. He also must be intelligent, responsible, empathetic and creative. A President must be able to get a lot done, in a narrow space of time, truly affecting change and making his time in office mean something. He must be responsible because the American governmental system is so expansive, so he has a lot he needs to take care of. Intelligence is indispensable in the leader of the free world. The president must understand the complexity of politics thoroughly and apply this knowledge practically every single day. Empathy is necessary so the president is able to connect with the American people. It is so easy for a president to fall into a "bubble" and become too separated from the people to know what is best for them. Finally, a president must be creative. They must be able to devise clever solutions to problems, exploring new fronts that have never been tried, to ensure the political world does not become stagnant or repetitive.
